General Mechanic

About the Company:

Kocide LLC, a wholly owned company of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and a sister company to Certis USA, is currently seeking multiple General Mechanics for our Houston, TX manufacturing plant.

About the Plant:

The plant produces copper fungicides sold worldwide and is currently the only plant for the businesses supply chain. Operations include synthesis, formulation, drying, and finished product packaging for the customer. Our plant is located at 12701 Almeda Road.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Maintenance First Line Supervisor, the General Mechanic will troubleshoot, repair and maintain equipment in accordance with manufacturer's specification as well as piping systems. The general mechanic position might also do some facilities support work. Mechanics are required to work a M–F day schedule, 40 hours per week and must also be available to work scheduled (planned) or unscheduled (unplanned/short-notice) hours on nights and/or weekends as needed to meet operating and/or business needs. Mechanics will be required to work overtime on an equal on-call rotation system. The Maintenance General Mechanic is a non-exempt, overtime eligible position.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Disassembles, cleans, inspects, repairs and reassembles equipment such as centrifugal, moyno & diaphragm pumps, compressors, blowers, bagging machines, conveyors, grinders, rotary valves, mills, blenders, gear boxes, agitators, assorted type of valves, etc.
  • Troubleshoots equipment using mechanical knowledge, equipment specification sheets, and manufacturer literature to restore to operation.
  • Lubricates gearboxes, pumps, bearings and other equipment to prolong life and keep them operating safely and efficiently.
  • Fabricates, installs, and replaces PVC, carbon steel, and stainless-steel pipe.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance tasks, documents findings/repairs/materials for equipment history, and executes PSM critical jobs.
  • Operates equipment and hand tools to support work including forklifts, the man lift, basic hand tools & power tools. Other heavy equipment is in scope with proper training.
  • Performs minor facilities maintenance work as needed such as minor building repairs, minor concrete repairs, etc.

Minimum Requirements:

  • All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 5 years field maintenance and experience with familiarity of equipment above.
  • Experience reading, understanding, and utilizing drawings, schematics, vendor manuals, safety standards & maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot effectively.
  • Demonstrated operational discipline and quality completion of work.
  • Strong safety performance record.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and be willing and able to learn new computer software systems.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment with mindset to improve one’s own skillset and performance as well as contribute to system improvements.
  • Ability to receive and adhere to detailed instructions, multi-task, communicate effectively & participate in problem solving.
  • Willingness to work in elevated or confined space scenarios.

Must Have Qualifications:

Successful candidates should have one or more of the following additional skills:

  • Welding certifications for pipe (and structural) such as NCCER Level 3 Welding.
  • Pipefitting experience with certification such as NCCER Level 3 or comparable.
  • Carpentry and concrete work experience with certification such as NCCER Level 3 Carpentry, NCCER Level 1 or 2 Concrete Finishing or comparable.
  • Crane operation experience and certification, preferably NACB.
  • Basic or greater electrical and/or instrumentation knowledge.
  • Experience with SAPPM.
  • Experience in Quality Assurance/Quality Control.

Industrial I&E Technician

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Maintenance First Line Supervisor, the KMS Instrumentation & Electrical Technician will troubleshoot, repair and maintain instrumentation equipment and electrical equipment and systems in accordance with manufacturer's specification as well as REGAGAP and the NEC manual. They have whole plant responsibility for all components that fall within the job description, excluding high voltage electrical, including offering support to facility needs as well as process equipment. Technicians are required to work a M – F day schedule, 40 hours per week and must also be available to work scheduled (planned) or unscheduled (unplanned/short-notice) hours on nights and/or weekends as needed to meet operating and/or business needs. Technicians will be required to work overtime on an equal on-call rotation system. The Instrumentation & Electrical Technician is a non-exempt, overtime eligible position.

Major Responsibilities:

  • Troubleshoot equipment using Instrumentation/Electricianal knowledge, equipment specification sheets, drawings, and manufacturer literature in order to restore to operation.
  • Utilize various types of test equipment to ensure equipment is repaired to the correct component. Test equipment to include but not limited to: ultrasound, multi-meters, infrared, pressure calibrators, etc.
  • Perform calibrations on instrumentation.
  • Perform safety interlocks.
  • Install and maintain building wiring, control, lighting and power circuits to ensure safe work spaces have appropriate lighting levels during both normal operations and emergency egress.
  • Follow state and local building regulations based on the National Electric Code.
  • Repair communications between field instruments and the control room PLC.
  • Performs Preventative Maintenance tasks, documents findings/repairs/materials for equipment history, and executes PSM critical jobs.
  • Operate equipment and hand tools to support work including forklifts, man lift, basic hand tools & power tools. Other mobile equipment in consideration with proper training.
  • Assist other crafts as needed and capable by training and/or guidance in jobs requiring more assistance.

Minimum Requirements:

  • All applicants must possess a high school diploma or GED equivalent.
  • Minimum 3 years field maintenance and experience with electrical and/or instrumentation.
  • Experience reading, understanding, and utilizing schematics, isometrics, vendor manuals, safety standards, codes & maintenance procedures.
  • Demonstrated ability to troubleshoot effectively on instruments, electronics & electrical systems.
  • Demonstrated operational discipline and quality completion of work.
  • Basic knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.) and be willing and able to learn new computer software systems.
  • Ability to work in a team based environment with mindset to improve one’s own skillset and performance as well as contribute to system improvements.
  • Ability to also work independently with proper training.
  • Ability to receive and adhere to detailed instructions, multi-task, communicate effectively & participate in problem solving.
  • Basic sketching ability.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Multi-craft experience relevant to this manufacturing facility.
  • Electrical, Instrumentation, and/or Electrical and Instrumentation Plant Maintenance NCCR certification at level 3 or higher.
  • PLC or DCS experience.
  • State electrical license.
  • Experience with SAPPM.
  • Experience in Quality Control.

Process Engineer

Kocide LLC, a wholly owned company of Mitsui & Co., Ltd. and a sister company to Certis USA and Spiess-Urania in Germany, is currently seeking a Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Process Engineer) for our Houston, TX manufacturing plant.

The plant produces copper fungicides sold worldwide and is currently the main plant for the businesses supply chain. Operations include synthesis, formulation, drying, and finished product packaging for the customer. Our plant is located at 12701 Almeda Road.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Manufacturing Technology Leader, the Manufacturing Technology Engineer (Process Engineer) is responsible for providing engineering and troubleshooting assistance to manufacturing operations. Responsibilities include developing and implementing technology initiatives to maintain and improve the operability, safety, quality, and cost of the unit. This is an exempt position, M-F, with extended hours as needed and limited travel.

Major Responsibilities:

The person in this position will work closely with the plant resources, particularly with Manufacturing Technology Leader, other peer engineers, Operations Leader, Maintenance Supervisor, operators and projects teams.

The process engineer will:

  • Develop and implement process and technology improvement programs, including uptime, cycle time, yield, energy reduction and waste minimization to ensure business production goals are met.
  • Assure process safety management, including management of change documentation, Process Hazards Analysis leadership, incident investigation and operator technical training.
  • Provide support for daily operation including monitoring process performance; providing technical support, troubleshooting process problems and tracking process metrics.
  • Provide liaison with design engineering personnel to insure proper operation.
  • Initiate Changes of Design (COD's) and/or Experimental Operating Instructions (EOI’s) to the process to improve the safety, quality, environment, and/or cost of the production unit.
  • Monitor the process on an on-going basis to look for positive and negative shifts in the process, to identify improvement opportunities. Statistical process control and Process Historian trending tools would routinely be used as part of the role.
  • Update, review and approve Operating procedures, Process & Instrumentation Diagrams (P&ID’s) and Standard Operating Conditions (SOC’s) according to the safety and quality system requirements of the site.
  • This position is a key member of a cross-functional team involving Plant Operations, Technology, Maintenance & Reliability, and capital project leadership teams; along with other key business management stakeholders.
  • This position is a key member of a cross-border technology exchange team involving Spiess-Urania sister plant to supports technology improvement, transfer and product development projects.
  • This role must be capable of functioning as individual contributor as well as in a team environment. The team includes wage, professional, contractors and management personnel.

Minimum Requirements:

  • Minimum Bachelor of Science degree in Chemical Engineering from accredited university.
  • Minimum of 5 years of related manufacturing process operations or industry work experience.

Preferred Additional Qualifications:

  • Demonstrated knowledge of basic chemical engineering principles and process safety management principles.
  • Strong interpersonal skills and a track record of fostering a respectful work environment.
  • High level of self-motivation, work ethic, initiative, and flexibility.
  • Demonstrated capability to resolve issues using fact-based problem solving and data analysis.
  • Strong troubleshooting skills and application of Root Cause Analysis concepts.
  • Demonstrated ability to understand manufacturing processes and best practices required to support operations.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead effective communication processes to resolve issues and ensure team alignment and understanding.
  • Good written and oral communication skills, including technical writing and preparing presentations on technical improvement proposals.
  • Ability to self-manage and network with other area/site/corporate resources.
  • Demonstrated computer skills, especially Microsoft Office: advanced Excel and Power Point. Minitab or other statistical data analysis tools are a plus.
  • Strong organization skills and small project management are highly desirable, including preparing project execution plans and scopes.
